Clinic & Dentist Training Guide - Ordering a Remake

Updated this week

This article provides detailed guidance for clinic users and dentists on how to request and submit a remake order for an appliance. It explains when a remake can be ordered, how to initiate the remake request, how the remake order is created, and how remake orders are tracked within the system.

Overview

A remake allows clinics and dentists to request a new version of an appliance that has already been produced and shipped by the lab. In Smile Genius, a remake is initiated from an existing case and is then submitted to the lab as a new order, while maintaining a clear link to the original case for traceability.

Remake orders:

  • Can be placed only after shipment or receipt

  • Are treated as new orders by the lab

  • Can be fully edited before submission

  • Are visually distinguished from regular orders

  • Remain linked to the original case

When Can a Remake Be Ordered?

A clinic user or dentist can order a remake only when one of the following conditions is met:

  • The lab has marked the appliance as shipped, or

  • The clinic has marked the appliance as received

If neither condition is met, the remake option will not be available.

Accessing the Remake Option

  1. Log in to the Smile Genius Platform.

  2. Navigate to the Cases tab.

  3. Open the relevant case details page.

  4. Click the three-dots (⋮) menu located at the top-right corner of the screen.

  5. Select Remake from the menu.

Step-by-Step: Requesting a Remake

Step 1 - Select Services for Remake

After clicking Remake, a selection screen will appear showing the list of services that were originally ordered in the case.

  • Select the service(s) that require a remake.

  • At least one service must be selected.

  • Multiple services can be selected if required.

Important: Remakes are always initiated at the service level, but submitted as a single remake order.

Step 2 - Select the Reason for Remake

  1. Choose a reason for remake from the predefined dropdown list.

  2. If the predefined options do not apply, select Other.

  3. When Other is selected, enter a custom reason explaining the remake request.

Clear and accurate reasons help the lab process the remake efficiently.

Step 3 - Upload Supporting Files (Optional)

  • Upload any relevant files to support the remake request, such as:

    • Intraoral scans

    • Photos of the appliance

    • Adjustment notes or measurements

    • Any additional documentation

Uploading supporting files is optional but recommended when visual clarification is required.

Step 4 - Submit the Remake Request

  • Review the selected services, reason, and uploaded files.

  • Click Submit to proceed.

Once submitted:

  • The system will redirect you to the Create Order screen.

  • The remake workflow continues as a new order submission.

Creating the Remake Order

After submitting the remake request, the user is navigated to the Create Order flow.

Key Points About Remake Orders

  • The remake is treated as a new order by the lab.

  • All order details can be edited or updated, including:

    • Services and specifications

    • Prescription responses

    • Case instructions

    • Scan files

    • Delivery dates

  • Clinics and dentists are free to adjust any information based on the remake requirements.

Once all required details are completed:

  • Submit the remake order to the lab.

What Happens After Submitting a Remake Order?

After submission:

  • The lab receives a new order notification.

  • The remake order appears in the Cases tab.

  • The remake order is clearly identified with a Remake icon, distinguishing it from regular orders.

Navigating Between Original and Remake Orders

To maintain traceability between related cases:

  • On the remake order details page, an Original Case ID chip is displayed in the top-right corner.

  • Clicking this chip navigates directly to the original order.

  • Likewise, the original order page provides navigation back to the related remake order.

This two-way linking ensures full visibility of order history and context.

Best Practices for Clinics & Dentists

  • Verify that the order has been shipped or received before initiating a remake.

  • Select the correct service(s) carefully to avoid unnecessary remakes.

  • Provide clear and detailed remake reasons.

  • Upload supporting files whenever possible.

  • Review and update all remake order details before submission.

Common Scenarios
